Marriage Notes

1620 - 1744


1. Many of the marriages are shown thus: `Humphridus CARTER et Martha HAIGHE de Simondley matrimonio conjuncti fuerunt 13th April 1714` It seems probable that both are from `Simondley` but not clear.  In these instances the groom`s address has been left blank and the place put in the bride`s address.

2. Robert HARISON MR. Arts Clarehall Camb. Lecturer St Andrew`s in the Wardrobe, London

3. Robert CRYER is the Vicar of Glossop.  The couple were married at Glossop by Richard FRYER, curate of Hefield.

4. The transcript suggests that father of the bride was Ralph.

5. `A true register of all the publications of marriage and marriages since xxix of September 1653 by William NEWTON Reger. for P. of G.`

6. `Publ. at the Market Cross in Tidswell 3 severall market days`.

7. `Upon or about the 5th November 1659 was the Register redelivered in the Minrs: handes since which time:-` 

8. This entry appears by itself on an otherwise blank page.

9. Date could be 23 Apr 1700 as next entry.  However the date 1699 is shown above it.

10. Year deduced from place in register.

11. From a loose leaf in register.

12. A true Register of all the Weddings that have been made at Glossopp Church since October 1732 by me William GODDARD vicr ibid.
