Chinley Ind Chapel Burials - Notes

1. Note placed on a new page before the burial of James Clegg. `An Account of the Burials at Chinley Chappel since the Death of James CLEGG M.D. who died Aug 5th 1755 and was buried at Chinley Chappel August the 7th following (Wm HARRISON the new Minister)

2. Buried by Mr Saml Evatt Minister at Ashford

3. `Her funeral sermon preached that same day by me`

4. `He hanged himself in his Barn at Melcoff and had Xh burial he being of insane mind and brought in by the Coroners Inquest as a Lunetic`

5. `-- was buried at Chinley Chappel by Mr Evatt Minister at Ashford when I was not at home and was not acquainted with her death`

7. `a child of about 5 years was buried at Chinley Chappel he came from Bugsworth and was a poor child his name I have forgot`

22. `Note: his death was occasioned by the fall of a Large Quantity of Lime Stone Rock falling on him at Grin near Buxton.  Note also deceased called William McQUIN is also wrote Willm McQUIRE - see baptism of his children` (sic)

31. `who died at her sisters Mis MIDDLETONS at Chappel in Frith.  She was daughter to Mr. CLEGG, Minister at Chinley Chapel and relict of the Revd Saml WATERHOUSE Dissenting Minister of Risely in Lancashire`

37. Note in reg. in 1797 `1794 Nicholas GODDARD at Milton some time in December aged about 76 years "he was forgot to be put in the proper place"`

38. `He had officiated for a many years as Dissenting Minister at Burton upon Trent`

39. `she lived and died at Godfrey LINGARDS, Milton`

40. `he droped down and died without a word on the coal pit hill`

41. `these two had been companions but not good ones`

52. `died June 11th at his daughters, Mrs SHEPPARD near Sheffield, was interred in his family burying place at Chinley Chapel`

53. `Pastor of the Congregation at Chinley Chapel for more than 23 years` `in the 56th year of his age by Mr Whitehead of Charlesworth`

60. Some of the 1813 & 1814 burials are in both the old & new registers with the old giving more detail which has been added.

64. `He was at the funeral of W Ford & in good health`

65. Note in register `The two foregoing with another boy not baptized were interred together being the sons of John Waterhouse of Hayfield at one birth`
